Project History

  • Large Health Insurance Provider
Helped lead the team to develop and deploy the client's flagship app to a total membership base of over 40 million Americans. Reduce tens of millions in costs by driving customers to digital channels.

Assisted in the launch of the client's new innovative mobile concept. I led a team of talented mobile developers to ship the first versions of the iOS and Android apps in September 2019. After launch, we grew my team from six to 11 to take on more responsibilities, including back end and web features. In addition to assuring that we developed high-impact features for the client's 40+ million insured members, I leveraged my start-up experience to bring innovative features and benefits to a historically slow-moving industry, modernize, and improve the client's development practices across all of the development teams, and to scale Toptal's impact within the client to over 100 developers. My work has also helped save over $10 million in lost developer productivity while increasing the value of the client's digital offerings, benefiting their customers and our sales partners.

After 12 months, I shifted roles to spearhead several dozen initiatives to increase member adoption of digital channels (mobile apps, websites, and chatbots, to name a few) to help reduce the multi-hundred million dollars cost of client's call centers. After only eight weeks, these initiatives are on track to save tens of millions over the next year.

  • FacePop
Led all technical initiatives as the head of product.

Managed the development of the website and iOS app for FacePop. The app used the brand new iPhone X True Camera depth sensor to extract the user's head from their background using a custom algorithm. I designed the app, scoped the project, found and managed an extremely talented developer, and ultimately delivered this project for approximately 10% of the total cost that two other firms had quoted.

  • WELL Health
Led scoping, design, development, and deployment for the public MVP.

I developed the MVP for this company. We built the first version of this HIPAA-compliant application in only six days. Since then, WELL has raised several rounds of funding and secured millions in recurring revenue. After launching, I became an advisor and shareholder.

  • PocketLab
Led scoping, design, and development of several iOS apps for an education company.

Over a four year period, I designed, developed, shipped, and maintained the iOS applications for PocketLab. With a small budget, I built several applications to collect and display the data from their Bluetooth-enabled hardware. I've earned two patents as a result of our work with this team and became an advisor and shareholder.
