Position Description

Toptal’s Growth Product team is responsible for Client Growth, Talent Growth, Brand Growth, and Marketing Tools. We are looking for a Director of Growth Product Management to lead one of our Growth Product squads. This role will be responsible for setting the product strategy for the squad while collaborating cross-functionally with leaders in the marketing function. This role will involve a mix of leadership and hands-on work.

You will direct a team of Growth Product Managers focused on executing initiatives and experiments to consistently grow our quality and quantity of inbound clients and freelance talent. You will guide your Growth Product Managers to succeed in our ultimate mission of driving sustainable growth. Ultimately, you’ll be responsible for areas of the public-facing website of Toptal.com.

You will be responsible for growing and up-leveling your Growth Product Managers. You’ll help your team rapidly test and iterate on growth hypotheses to acquire new clients or talent. On any given week, you may be creating new product strategies, launching new offerings, building new landing pages, designing A/B tests to improve the conversion rates of existing pages, or executing SEO-focused tests.

The Director of Growth Product Management is responsible for developing the squad product strategy and growing the Growth Product program. This could include taking a new business offering to market, launching a new tool, and creating and launching new features.

This is a remote position that can be done from anywhere. Due to the remote nature of this role, we are unable to provide visa sponsorship. Resumes and communication must be submitted in English.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead Growth Product Managers and other marketing team members to deliver on our OKRs and ultimately drive sustainable growth for Toptal.
  • Continuously formulate and execute a roadmap to drive inbound growth, working alongside your fellow Directors of Growth Product Management and partnering closely with our VP of Marketing Strategy.
  • Mentor and coach Growth Product Managers.
  • Facilitate meetings and workshops that drive collaboration, prioritization, and improve impact, ensuring that good decisions are made.
  • Establish effective relationships across a wide range of teams in the business, managing stakeholder expectations and building trust and confidence over time.
  • Establish a shared understanding of business priorities and strategy within your squad and your partners.
  • Define and prioritize detailed objectives and specifications for initiatives ranging from landing pages, UX improvements, content offerings, user engagement tests, technical SEO improvements, nurture flows, and more.
  • Coordinate the creative development of design specifications, including ensuring that all work is high-quality to meet goals.
  • Conduct high-quality and detailed qualitative and quantitative research to evolve and inform the direction of product development.

In the first week, expect to:

  • Onboard and integrate into Toptal. Meet the teams and people you will have long-term working relationships with.
  • Partner with your manager to get a fundamental understanding of the teams, goals, and processes.
  • Independently start to study and learn the Toptal platform and product suite.

In the first month, expect to:

  • Work cross-functionally with your Growth Product Managers to refine your product’s strategy.
  • Start to organize and prioritize your high-level roadmap and backlog.
  • Start collaborating closely with cross-functional leads including design, engineering, content, and marketing sub-functions where required.
  • Take ownership of your team roadmap, working directly with your Growth Product Managers to understand priorities and opportunities.

In the first three months, expect to:

  • Gain a deeper understanding of users to generate product insights.
  • Contribute ideas and facilitate workshops and discussions for new experiments and initiatives.
  • Ensure that your teams are accurately staffed, collaborating with leaders when necessary to recruit and onboard more people.
  • Be able to demonstrate a clear measure of your impact through business results, your partner relationships, and execution excellence.

In the first six months, expect to:

  • Refine future product strategy and roadmap for your squad.
  • Take ownership of stakeholder relationships for your teams.
  • Drive significant impact on revenue growth from inbound clients and talent, using the latest thinking in user experience, growth hacking, SEO, lead nurturing, and conversion optimization.

Requirements:

  • 6+ years of professional experience in Product Management.
  • 2+ years of Growth experience either in online growth, SEO, or performance marketing.
  • 2+ years of people management experience leading Product Managers.
  • 2+ years of experience in a role where stakeholder management is a key success factor.
  • A Bachelor’s degree, preferably in an analytical field.
  • Have an entrepreneurial mindset, be able to deal with ambiguity, and be willing to wear multiple hats to get the job done.
  • Experience leading design and engineering teams, driving the development of high-quality landing pages and digital experiences that effectively accomplish business goals while maintaining brand standards.
  • A foundational understanding of design thinking, user research, and user testing.
  • An extremely sharp eye for detail and a strong sense of what types of creative products will be both effective for growth and representative of the Toptal brand.
  • You are the type of person that craves accountability.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and proven skills in stakeholder management including executive-level presentation skills.
  • A demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects at once.
  • Openness to receiving feedback and constructive criticism.
  • A background in web development or understanding core fundamental concepts would be advantageous.
